  Note Taking: Introduction
In order to be successful in college, you need to be able to learn and remember new information. Some of the information you learn will be from in the textbook and some will be learned in-class from the lecture. Taking notes is a process that goes on before, during and after the class. Taking notes allows you to capture the ideas and information from the instructor, but by recording you are given another opportunity to become familiar with the topic.

There are four basic steps to taking good notes:
  • Prepare before the class begins to listen.
  • Use active listening skills during the lecture to grasp the material.
  • Review the notes as soon as possible. Record additional key points in the notes.
  • Organize your notes to make it easier to retrieve in months to come.
